Tips for travelling responsibly

Before leaving
  • Look for the most possible information about the country. Whenever possible, choose tour operators, airlines and hotels committed to the host communities and the environment.
  • Whenever possible, choose tour operators, airlines and hotels committed to the host communities and the environment.
During the trip
  • Try to adapt to the local customs, without imposing their habits and lifestyles.
  • Stay in places that are respectful of the environment.
  • Respect the host rules. It is also advisable to learn about the local tipping practice and refrain from giving alms.
  • In places of worship or when travelling to economically depressed areas, avoid wearing flashy clothes and ostentatious wealth that contrast sharply with the local living standard.
  • Supporting cultural manifestations and local crafts not only improves local people's economy working in the sector, but the memories will be more authentic. It is imperative to learn about the practice of bargaining prices.
  • The world is beautiful because there is variety: establishing right and cordial relationships with local populations without prejudice or stereotypes, helps you enjoy more.
  • As much as you can, use services managed by the local population, in particular transport and accommodation.
  • On your way leave only your feet footprints and not other marks.
  • Turn off the tap, turn off the air conditioning and the lights when you leave the property, whether it is a rural hotel or a large complex paying the bill.
  • People are not part of the landscape. Ask them permission before taking a picture.
  • Have fun trying the local gastronomy .
  • Remember that there are communities anthropologically inclined to prostitution, that consent by a minor is invalid, that an agreement with families, hoteliers or others is not an alibi.
Returning home
  • When you get home reflect on what you have lived and learned. If you have made commitments with local people you should keep them.
  • If you have witnessed serious and intolerable situations, tell your travel agent or tour operator.

Diffuse, share what you have seen, the experiences you have lived. You have become the best means for others to contribute to the development of local communities.
